Former hospital surgeon exposed as paedophile and struck off

A specialist consultant surgeon has lost his license to practice as a doctor and a dentist after pleading guilty to multiple sexual offenses involving children.

Timothy Edwin Lloyd, a former consultant maxillofacial surgeon at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, could face prison when he appears before Truro Crown Court in January for sentencing. He has pleaded guilty to one charge of attempting to coax a 12-year-old child to watch a video of a person having sex for the purpose of his own self gratification in February 2021.

During the plea and direction hearing on October 21, the 41-year-old from New Road in Porthcawl in Wales, also pleaded guilty to two other charges of engaging in a sexual conversation with two minors, reports CornwallLive. The first was in February last year and then on a separate occasion between March 23, 2021 and April 8, 2021, again for the purpose of his own sexual gratification.

The specialist dental consultant has since been suspended by both the General Dental Council (GDC) and the General Medical Council (GMC). On the GDC website, his license revocation order reads: “At a review hearing on October 25, 2022, the Interim Orders Committee revoked the conditions previously imposed on Mr Lloyd’s registration and replaced them with an order for suspension for the remainder of the 18 months order.”

The GMC confirmed that an interim orders tribunal took place on December 8. This was followed by a suspension order on December 13 effectively banning him from practicing medicine in the UK until he is re-registered. The order reads: “This person has been suspended from the Medical Register and may not practice as a doctor in the UK. This doctor is not subject to revalidation. Only doctors holding full registration with a license to practice are subject to revalidation.”

A spokesman for the GMC added: “Dr Timothy Edwin Lloyd is interim suspended pending the conclusion of a GMC investigation. Dr Lloyd was initially interim suspended in December 2022 by a medical tribunal.”

A spokeswoman for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, for which Lloyd worked for several years, confirmed that his employment had also been terminated. She said: “We took appropriate and immediate employment actions upon being notified of the police investigation. Mr Lloyd has not practiced at our hospital since May 2021. The investigation did not raise concerns about Mr Lloyd’s conduct at work.”

Meanwhile, a quick look at Companies House shows that Lloyd’s private practice – Kernow Facial Surgery Ltd which is located at Minfreda Gardens in Goonhavern, has been dissolved by Lloyd – who was its sole director – on February 22, 2022.

Lloyd had been due to be sentenced in November, but the hearing was adjourned after his psychological evaluation report was delayed. He is now due to reappear before Truro Crown Court for sentencing next month.
