Pilot ejects in dramatic escape as military jet nosedives

A pilot safely ejected from a military jet after its dramatic landing was caught on camera. The F-35B nosedived and spiraled after its wheels temporarily touched down at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth, Texas.

Video taken by people watching the landing depicts the plane descending in a straight line as smoke appears in the rear.

The F-35B possesses special modifications that allow it to take off and land vertically like a helicopter.

A Pentagon spokesman said that the aircraft was being flown by a US government pilot at the time of the crash.

This was despite the fact that the aircraft had not yet been transferred to the US military by manufacturer Lockheed Martin.

According to Pentagon spokesman Air Force General Pat Ryder, the pilot safely ejected from the plane.

However, the condition of the pilot is not known.

Local police officers controlled a crowd of people who had stopped on a nearby road or walked over to watch following the crash.

A spokesman for Lockheed Martin said in a statement that they were aware of the crash and believed the pilot was safe.

He said: “Safety is our priority, and we will follow appropriate investigation protocol.”

It comes only a month after two historic military aircraft collided during an airshow at the Dallas Executive Airport, killing six people.
