On Saturday, Monaco’s royal twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella celebrated their eighth birthday together by protecting Monaco’s marine wildlife before meeting some beloved cartoon characters. The pair were joined by their mother Princess Charlene and their father Prince Albert as they took part in an ecological event.
Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella spent their birthday learning about Monaco’s marine wildlife at the Oceanographic Institute.
The Monaco royal family prepared a package of juvenile turtles, which were set to leave the institute and travel to Turtles Village in Senegal.
The pair were seen in photographs released by the Palace of Monaco excitedly petting turtles and helping to decorate the crate they will travel in to reach their new home.
Later on, the royals had a party which featured several actors dressed up as cartoon characters, including Po from Kung Fu Panda as well as video game characters Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog.
In released photographs, two different party themes seem to be taking place as Princess Gabriella is dressed in pink Japanese clothing as a geisha, which is a class of female Japanese performing artists.
Pink balloons and blossoms can also be seen in the photographs, as well as a birthday cake with a pink butterfly and a Japanese cartoon character on top.
Prince Jacques is seen dressed more formally in a shirt and jumper but is spotted with a Nintendo-themed birthday cake featuring Mario and Sonic.

Last month, a new photograph was released by the twin’s mother, Princess Charlene, of the royal children dressed up for Monaco’s National Day.
Prince Jacques appeared in military uniform, like his father Prince Albert, while Princess Charlene wore a red buttoned coat and a fashionable side hat, which was familiar to the hat Princess Charlene was wearing that day.
Royal fans similarly took to the comment section, with one person saying how “adorable” the twins look.
Another user wrote: “Happy National Day! Lovely kids, you can just see how happy they are!”
