Queen was ‘sad’ but ‘not surprised’ when Harry stepped back

Prince Harry has said his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, was “sad” but not surprised when he decided to step back from his role as a senior working royal.

in an ABC News interview called, ‘Prince Harry: In His Own Words’, the Duke of Sussex, 38, discussed his decision with Michael Strahan ahead of his memoir being released today.

Mr Strahan asked if the Queen, who died aged 96 in September last year, was angry about his choice to leave.

“Well. My grandmother and I had a very good relationship. But I had many many conversations with her over the years… So, it was never a surprise to anyone, least of all her,” he said.

He continued: “She knew what was going on. She knew how hard it was. I have huge amounts of respect for her.

“She never said to me that she was angry. I think she was sad that it got to that point.”
